Church Planter
Antony Zuze
Sending Church
Christlike Baptist Church, Mzuzu, Malawi
Status
In process
Four years ago, Christlike Baptist Church, a member of Sola 5, sent a missionary, Antony Zuze, with a few members, to plant Providence Bible Church (PBC) in the same city, Mzuzu.
Antony was one of the elders at Christlike. Last year he attended the Sola 5 Conference along with Brino Kumwenda to represent Christlike. He is a graduate of Christ Seminary in South Africa. Brino has been with him long enough to say with certainty that the brother loves the LORD, his family, the church, and lost souls. The church sent the right person to plant the church.
Antony was born in 1982 and born again in 2001. The Lord has been faithful in using him to lead the church plant. One important feature is that the church has attracted a number of young people, which gives hope not only for PBC but also for the church in Malawi in general.
The Church Planting Work of Providence Bible Church
However, the work needs support. Below is Antony’s own explanation on the work and appeal for support. We appeal for your partnership in this church planting work.
The Need
There is need for healthy churches in the city. Mzuzu, like many places in Africa, has a population that is rooted in the African Traditional Religion, the word of faith movement, Roman Catholicism, traditionalism, Gospel illiteracy, feminism and Arminianism. The majority of the people and churches are so rooted in bad theology that they view the reformed faith as bad theology.
Besides these challenges, there is political, economic, and social crisis in the country which most affect the youths who comprise the majority of the population. It is in view of such challenges in the city that their common burden to plant a Bible believing reformed church that Christlike sent me to plant Providence Church in Area 4.
The Mission
Since we have been rescued by our missionary God, our mission is to strive by the help of our triune God to join his mission by making disciples into a loving relationship with Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:18–20).
The Vision
We desire to see lives changed by the gospel that has been accomplished in the person of God’s Son Jesus Christ.
The Main Mission Field: The Youth
While we are committed to preaching the gospel to all kinds of people, our main mission field are the youths because they are in majority in the country. Seventy percent of the population in Malawi is youthful.
Secondly, the youths are proving to be more receptive to the gospel and the Reformed faith than the older generation. However, young people seem to be opening up for the gospel and sound doctrine.
Thirdly, the youths have been most affected by the social, political and economic crisis in the country. Many of them come from broken homes, live in abject poverty, are unemployed and exploited by political leaders. We believe that the solution to their transformation is the gospel as it is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16).
Prayer Support
Pray that:
- God will continue to give Pastor Antony strengthen and wisdom in leading the work.
- God will prosper the gospel proclamation by the church to the community.
Financial and Material Support
- Support toward purchase of land: Consider contributing towards the purchase of land. We have identified land and the seller has allowed us to be meeting on it while we settle the balance. We need USD5,000 to complete the balance.
- Support towards the building of restrooms. There is no restroom in the current place of gathering. Construction of restrooms will be a huge blessing to us. We need USD2,500 for the project.
Planter’s Testimony of Conversion
My name is Antony Malunga Zuze and I am 42 years old. I am married to my wife Kate and we are blessed with a son named Paulito, who is three years old. I was born on 9 September 1982 in the capital city of Malawi called Lilongwe. I am the sixth born from a family of seven children. I was raised in a Christian society and my parents are Catholics. Since the year 2000, I was also an active member of the Catholic Church. I started and completed my primary education at Lilongwe Boys Primary School in Lilongwe township. I went to college to study Computer Engineering at the New Horizon Training College.
During these times before my conversion, I lived my life in a worldly manner. I was a heavy alcoholic and a party animal. I lived a very sinful life until 8 October 2001. That day, through some circumstances, I attended a church called Calvary Family Church in Lilongwe township. There I heard the gospel, which changed my life entirely. I learned about the love and sacrifice of Christ, which caused me to accept him as my Lord and Saviour. This message truly changed me for good, and still continues to transform me in ways no man ever could. Words cannot explain the peace and joy I have in my heart from the gospel.
Call to Ministry
After I got saved I could still feel that something in me was not complete. I could feel my heart was empty, and I needed to fill it with the word of God in order to strengthen me and carry me through my Christian life. My passion for God continues to grow every day. I feel convicted each time I pray. Each time I read the Bible I can feel the Lord drawing close. I soon realised there was nothing more fulfilling than serving God.
Some years ago I joined my friends on a mission trip to the Dedza District in Malawi. While I was there, I felt a strong desire that God was calling me to serve him. I kept on thinking about my fellow brothers and sisters who are still in the world and did not know Jesus. That day I felt a heavy burden for the lost souls I knew. This is when I began to help in youth ministry and began to learn more about the trinitarian God.
My desire to serve was growing. Even though I was serving I felt inadequate. I needed to study God’s word in a formal setting. Thank God for my brother in Christ, Gideon McGovern Mpeni, who recommended me to study at seminary. I took his counsel and went to seminary. I studied there for four years.

Pastor Brino Kumwenda
Very encouraging and touching story. We need more churches with sound doctrine and well trained and taught Pastors who can expound the word of God faithfully.
