Antipas Gereformede Baptiste Kerk
Queenswood, South Africa
In 1997, a single family requested the Antipas Reformed Baptist Congregation in the Vaal Triangle to start a similar congregation in Pretoria. Nico van der Walt was the pastor. Evening services began on 25 January 1998 in the hall of the Nuwe Hoop School in Ashlea Gardens. On 25 April that year, the first members were admitted and, since March 1999, the church has had two services per Sunday. Another big day for Antipas Pretoria was 5 March 2000, when it became an independent congregation—self-sufficient and self-governing.
From the founding of this congregation, the Bible has been and is the only, reliable, sufficient and non-negotiable norm for learning and living.
The church is evangelical, which means that it affirms the necessity of regeneration, repentance, sanctification, and perseverance.
The church is Reformed, which means that it stand unashamedly within the Protestant tradition of the sixteenth century Reformation.
The church is Baptist, which means that it places a high premium on the local church as an independent community of true believers and the associated confessional baptism.
The church is confessional, which means that it acknowledges the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith (not necessarily in every word, but in every doctrine) and the statement of values of Sola 5.
In living out the faith, the church keeps three directions in balance. Upward, the church walks with God and worships him in spirit and truth. Inside, the church loves, serves, and builds each other. Outside, the church wants to be of service, to live honestly and sincerely in this world, and to spread the gospel widely and purely.
