We live in a day in which the church has become so seeker-sensitive that churches exist to serve men rather than God. As a result, the spiritual growth of churches often remains stagnant and, in some cases, even declines. Many Christians are not concerned, because they are content to see the sick being kept alive through artificial means. God would have us be concerned about the state of his churches. We should be committed to both establishing healthy churches and revitalising unhealthy churches.
This sermon, based on Revelation 2–3, was preached at the second session of the 2018 annual Sola 5 Conference, hosted by Brackenhurst Baptist Church in Alberton, South Africa.

The Need for Discomfort in Church Planting (Acts 1:8)
If church revitalisation is like raising the dead (a difficult task by anyone’s standard—except Christ’s!), church planting is like giving birth (easier, perhaps, but still painful and labourious). Still, like childbirth, church planting can be difficult, messy, noisy, and worrying but it is worth it in the long run. In fact, the New Testament argues that there is something of a need for discomfort in church planting.
