Family Life
The Lord has been very gracious to us, carrying us from one day to the other. I can gladly say that it is well with my soul.
A brief update on our unborn baby: Jenna has gone to see our doctor a few times now and the baby is okay. The doctors said that he is growing slowly but it only means that he is going to be a tiny guy. Jenna, on the other hand, has been battling to keep her blood pressure low. After Zoe’s birth, she was diagnosed with hypertension. We need your prayers desperately.
Zoe started school again and things look more normal now. She will be attending school every other week. She has been excited to go back to school but I think she is battling mixed emotions. We really need much wisdom to guide her through this time.
Blackheath Outreach
For the past few weeks, I have been assisting my friend, Alfonso, with his outreach in the Blackheath community. Alfonso is the pastor of Dennemere Baptist Church in Blackheath. He asked me to preach at an open air they conducted before their feeding scheme.
When I visited them the first time, I shared the gospel with a mixed group of young people and adults in a form of a discussion-like question and answers. I noticed one of the guys slipping away as I was starting to share. He later returned when we were done and busy giving out soup. Two weeks late, I was at it again but this time I was preaching. Sadly I noticed him walking away again—only to return when the soup was ready. I decided to confront him. At first, he was not interested in what I had to say but, as we were talking, he started to open up. He told me about the first week he walked away from the group and what had happen that evening.
That evening when he left, he went to go visit a friend not so far from where we were having our outreach. As they returned, going somewhere he did not say, some gangsters started to shoot at them. He clearly remembered his friend pushing him out of the way and taking the shots for him. His friend died. He got away without a scratch. To me this was a gospel opportunity and I started to explain to him how this was the mercy of God. Please pray for him. I sure hope that God will give me another opportunity to share the gospel with him.
Coronavirus and Christ
A huge “thank you” to our brother Tommie van der Walt for supplying us with two thousand copies of John Piper’s book Coronavirus and Christ. This book was given to various individuals, churches, and to the Bible Institute South Africa. We have received many messages of gratitude and reports on how this little book has been a great encouragement in this time the global pandemic.
Once again, a huge thank you to Imprint and Desiring God for their work and gift to the body of Christ. Your work will not go unnoticed but in due time you will reap a reward if you faint not.
Prayer Requests
- Please continue to pray for Jenna and the baby. Pray that I will lead my family well.
- Pray for Mario and me as we seek ways to be an encouragement to the church and as elders to serve them well under these circumstances.
- Pray that God will draw men to Christ as Pastor Alfonso reaches out to his community weekly.
Thank you for taking time to read this brief report.
“For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of: for necessity is laid upon me; yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9:16)
Yours in his service,
