Hillcrest Baptist Church

Founded in 1954, Hillcrest Baptist Church is an independent Reformed Baptist church serving the western suburbs of Durban. We joyfully subscribe to the 1689 Baptist Confession of Faith as a faithful summary of biblical truth, while recognising the Scriptures alone as our final and infallible authority.

Our deepest desire is simple: More people worshipping God rightly. We seek to glorify God by seeing people reconciled to him through the Lord Jesus Christ and progressively conformed to his image. We believe that sinners are saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and that God continues his work of sanctification by his Spirit through his appointed means.

For that reason, the ministry of God’s word stands at the very centre of our life together. Every sermon, every song, every prayer, and every ministry is governed by the Scriptures. Each Lord’s Day, we gather to worship God reverently and joyfully as the Bible is preached expositionally, verse by verse, with the conviction that God’s word is sufficient to save, sanctify, and equip his people.

Our aim is not only to grow in knowledge. We long to know Christ more deeply, to love him more sincerely, and to become increasingly like him. Sound doctrine is not an end in itself, but the means by which the Holy Spirit shapes a people who delight in God, love one another, and faithfully serve the world around them.

The church is shepherded by a plurality of elders who are committed to faithful exposition of Scripture, pastoral care, biblical counselling, and equipping every member for the work of ministry. We believe that every Christian has been called not merely to attend church, but to belong to Christ’s body and to participate actively in its life.

This conviction gives us a high view of church membership. We seek to cultivate a community marked by biblical love, mutual encouragement, accountability, hospitality, and prayer. Throughout the week our home groups provide opportunities for believers to study God’s word together, bear one another’s burdens, and live out the many “one another” commands of Scripture.

Discipleship is a priority at every stage of life. From children and youth to young adults and families, we seek to teach the whole counsel of God faithfully, helping each generation grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our commitment to the gospel also extends beyond our own congregation. We partner with local churches, support church planting and missionary work both within Southern Africa and beyond, and desire to see biblical churches established wherever God opens doors.

Above all, we want to be a church where Christ is treasured, his word is faithfully proclaimed, his people are deeply loved, and his gospel is made known—for the glory of God alone.
