We pray this Sunday for Germiston Baptist Church (GBC) in South Africa, where Lance Laughton serves as pastor-teacher. The church writes:
Brothers and sisters, here’s the latest news from Germiston Baptist Church situated on the East Rand of Johannesburg. We are a happy, united, multiracial, family church, which is resilient in the face of some substantial challenges.
Here is how you can pray:
- Our immigrant members and adherents have been threatened by violence and the threat of violence leading to some staying away from church meetings. This has been discouraging and has impacted the regular ministry of the church. Pray that people will return to the fellowship of the saints.
- We regularly have area wide power disruptions, which affects our ability to serve the body of Christ here. While we do have battery backup, the duration of the power failures mean that the battery drains long before power is restored. Pray for our Ekurhuleni municipality and against the work of the Evil One.
- One of our elders with his family resigned and moved to another church, which means that we only have two elders. Pray for us as we seek to disciple and install new elders.
- Unemployment, loss of contracts, sickness, and a stagnant job market has had an impact on our members’ finances, which have impacted the giving of the church. Pray for employment, financial wisdom, budgeting, and generosity among our number.
We praise God for:
- the sacrificial service and giving of many of our members;
- two young people pursuing baptism and membership; and
- great fellowship, unity, contentment, and joy in Christ in spite of present challenges.
Yours in Christ,
Pastor Lance Laughton
