Ministry Update: Crystal Park Baptist Church (September 2017)

Dear brethren,

We count it a privilege to have been accepted at the recent ABM into the Sola 5 association of churches.

Thank you for your ongoing support of Crystal Park Baptist Church Benoni whether financially, in regular prayer or by referring family and friends to our fellowship.

We are often made aware of many who partner together with us in diverse ways and we praise God for ministering to us through you.

Below is a brief update regarding the health of our community and a few specific ways you may join us in prayer. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Biblical Teaching

The Lord has continued to bless us as a church with able preachers and teachers. Our pulpit is shared amongst five able men, with a further four assisting with communion messages. We have grown to eleven midweek Bible studies each with multiple teachers.

Several ladies have committed to a leadership development program and are getting Bible and facilitation training.

A few months ago our elders adopted a confession of faith detailing the sound doctrine we teach, and explaining the unity between us on key aspects of the Christian faith, setting a clear expectation to our members regarding our shared beliefs.

Since January 2016 we have been preaching through the Gospel of John in our morning services. The elders are excited to begin preparing a new series through Genesis 1–11 starting in November.

Fervent Worship

We have grown to four worship teams. This has created an element of diversity as well as stability in the leading of our corporate worship.

Our band days continue to create space for members—who have a heart for corporate worship or sound ministry and who are adequately gifted—to meet with the team and see what the worship ministry entails including informal auditions and the introduction of new music. Next Band Day is on 30 September.

As we’ve grown we’ve introduced a number of new areas where our members can serve. We now have teams for public scripture reading, stewardship, coordinating the service, morning prayers. We do thank the Lord for a very active membership base.

Loving Fellowship

Over this past year, we’ve baptised a number of converts and our membership has grown to 75. We expect to grow even more during November.

Steady increases in attendance to our morning service over the past seven years means that we’ve got all sorts of pressures on our facilities.

For instance, we’re now having to park up to four houses down the block and have a car marshal to assist with parking.

Passionate Evangelism

Many of our members and youth participate in our various evangelistic activities such as door-to-door and street preaching.

We are also blessed to have open doors at a number of the state facilities in our community such as the local clinic, Crystal Park High School, Crystal Park Primary School and Jahari Christian Academy. We received a request today to hold a memorial service at another local school.

We remain committed to the church planting works at Moletsani Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church Daveyton, as well as the work done by Caleb and Ruth in a Middle-Eastern country.

How Can You Pray for Us?

Pray for our elders, Mark Penrith, Gideon Mpeni and Dave Courtney (along with Warren Scott, whom we’ve brought to the church as a nomination; and Craig Dadoo who is on sabbatical) that we’d be faithful to God’s Word, holy in our lives and zealous as we go about his work.

Pray for our members, that they’d grow in maturity, both knowledge and as living witnesses to the good work the Lord has done in their lives.

Pray for our city, Benoni, that we’d be bold in the proclamation of the gospel and that we’d see the Lord bring in a harvest of souls to his own praise and glory.

Our morning service has begun to exceed our seating capacity. Praise the Lord.

Our most recent members’ meeting.

Our ladies’ leadership development group.

We recently had Conrad Mbewe address a combined service. On 2 December we’ll be hosting Steven Lawson.

Petunia was baptised a few weeks ago.
